Pakistan medicine-quality checklist
Tirzepatide authenticity and storage in Pakistan: a practical checklist
How to check the seller, pack, batch, import evidence and cold-chain history before using a tirzepatide injection in Pakistan.
For the full overview of uses, safety, product differences and verification questions, start with our tirzepatide in Pakistan patient guide.
01
Why authenticity and storage both matter
A genuine-looking box does not prove that a medicine is authentic, lawfully supplied or suitable for use. A legitimate product can also be damaged by freezing, heat, light, tampering or poor transport.
DRAP advises consumers to obtain therapeutic products from authorized, licensed pharmacies or outlets, check authenticity and condition, and consult a pharmacist when unsure.5 WHO warns that falsified medicines can closely resemble genuine products. Visual inspection is useful, but it cannot replace regulatory checks, supply-chain records or laboratory testing.7
TYZEPA and Mounjaro® are separate products. Mounjaro storage limits apply only to the presentation named in the Mounjaro leaflet; they must not be copied to TYZEPA.8 No current primary TYZEPA leaflet was available among the public sources reviewed for this page, so no TYZEPA-specific room-temperature allowance is stated.
02
Before buying: verify the seller and paperwork
Use a licensed pharmacy with a traceable physical location and a qualified pharmacist. Avoid sellers who offer a prescription injection without a prescription, refuse an invoice, hide their address or cannot identify their supplier.
Ask for:
- a dated receipt naming the product, strength, quantity and seller;
- pharmacy licence details and the authorized importer or distributor;
- the batch or lot number and expiry date;
- evidence supporting Pakistan registration or permission for that imported consignment; and
- a patient information leaflet for the exact presentation.
DRAP’s public Registered Drugs Index is provisional and may contain errors or omissions.1 Use it as one check, request the underlying documents, and confirm uncertainty with DRAP. A foreign registration, manufacturer licence, social-media claim, invoice or customs sticker does not by itself establish Pakistan authorization.
DRAP has formal services for personal-use and commercial import/export.23 Their existence does not make every imported pack, courier shipment or resale lawful. Requirements depend on the exact case. This page makes no claim that a particular TYZEPA pack is registered or lawfully imported.
03
At collection: inspect the exact pack
- Identity: brand, active ingredient, strength, concentration, dosage form and pack size should match the prescription and invoice.
- Supply chain: manufacturer, importer or distributor details should agree across the carton, leaflet and invoice.
- Batch and dates: details on the carton should match the immediate container or device. Pause if they are altered, covered or unreadable.
- Seal and condition: check for broken seals, glue marks, water damage, punctures, unexpected stickers or evidence of prior opening.
- Print and leaflet: spelling errors, blurred printing, unusual colours, or a missing or mismatched leaflet need verification. Good printing alone is not proof.
- Medicine and device: follow the leaflet’s inspection directions. Do not use a damaged device or a solution with unexpected particles, cloudiness or colour change.
Photograph all sides of the unopened carton, seal, batch, expiry, invoice and dispensing label. These records can help a pharmacist, manufacturer or regulator investigate a concern. WHO likewise advises comparing batch and expiry details on inner and outer packaging and checking seals and product appearance.7
04
Ask for the cold-chain history
The correct storage range comes from the exact product label and approved product information. DRAP’s cold-chain guidance says storage and transport must stay within the manufacturer’s stability profile and applicable regulatory requirements. It calls for temperature monitoring and traceable records in controlled storage.4
Ask the pharmacy or distributor:
- What range does this exact leaflet specify?
- Was the product kept within that range from receipt to dispensing, with monitored records?
- Could it have frozen, touched an ice pack, or been exposed to heat or sunlight?
- What documented process follows a power failure or temperature alarm?
A cold box, gel pack or refrigerator is not proof of an intact cold chain. DRAP says shipping systems must maintain the required range and protect freeze-sensitive products from below-zero exposure when frozen packs are used.
05
Safe storage at home in Pakistan
Follow the leaflet supplied with the exact pack. If it requires refrigeration:
- keep it in its original carton;
- use a refrigerator thermometer and check the labeled range;
- keep it away from the freezer compartment, cooling plate and direct contact with frozen items;
- avoid the refrigerator door;
- keep it dry and out of children’s reach;
- plan for load-shedding before an outage; and
- use a suitable insulated carrier for travel, with the medicine separated from frozen packs so it cannot freeze.
Do not apply another brand’s room-temperature allowance to TYZEPA. Current US Mounjaro labeling has presentation-specific time limits outside refrigeration. Those limits are based on Mounjaro stability data and do not establish a TYZEPA limit.8
06
If storage or authenticity is uncertain
Do not judge suitability by how the carton feels. Return the product to its labeled storage conditions without freezing it, separate it from verified stock, and contact the dispensing pharmacist. Provide the temperatures reached, duration, possible freezing, exact brand, presentation, strength, batch and expiry.
The pharmacist should obtain product-specific stability advice through the responsible manufacturer or authorized supply chain. Do not use the injection until a qualified professional advises you. Re-cooling does not reverse possible damage.
Pause and seek verification if the seller or importer cannot be identified; batch or expiry details do not match; a seal is broken; the leaflet is missing or belongs to another presentation; the product may have frozen or exceeded its labeled range; the medicine or device looks abnormal; or a promotion pressures you to buy without a prescription.
If you suspect a falsified, unregistered, damaged or poorly stored medicine, keep the pack, device, invoice and photographs. Contact the pharmacist and DRAP. Symptoms need clinical advice; urgent symptoms need emergency care. Suspected side effects and quality problems can be reported to DRAP’s National Pharmacovigilance Centre.6
07
Questions to ask before use
- Does this exact brand, strength and presentation match my prescription?
- Which patient leaflet and storage range apply to this pack?
- Who imported and distributed this batch, and what documents support that route?
- How was temperature monitored during transport and storage?
- What should I do during load-shedding, travel or a temperature excursion?
- Who should assess suspected freezing, overheating or tampering?
- How can I report a quality concern or adverse reaction to DRAP?
This checklist supports a discussion with a pharmacist or clinician. It cannot authenticate a package or determine its legal status by itself.
Questions patients ask
Clear answers, with limits.
Does a hologram or QR code prove that tirzepatide is genuine?
No single visual feature proves authenticity. Verify any code through the official system named by the manufacturer or regulator, and still check the licensed seller, invoice, batch, expiry, leaflet, supply route and product condition.
Is imported tirzepatide automatically better quality?
No. Country of origin and the word “imported” do not establish authenticity, clinical equivalence, lawful Pakistan supply or an intact cold chain. Evidence must apply to the exact product and consignment.
Can I use a pack after a power outage?
It depends on the exact label, the temperatures reached and the duration. Keep the refrigerator closed when possible, record the outage and thermometer readings, and ask the pharmacist for product-specific advice before use.
Can I use Mounjaro storage instructions for TYZEPA?
No. They are separate products. Use the leaflet for the exact TYZEPA presentation and obtain product-specific advice if its temperature history is uncertain.
What should I keep if I suspect a quality problem?
Keep the product, outer carton, device, leaflet, invoice and clear photographs showing the batch and expiry. Do not discard evidence that a pharmacist, manufacturer or regulator may need.
